Horse charity World Horse Welfare got featured on the Channel 4 programme Dispatches and have been forced to explain their donation methods after them being depicted as lyingly and deliberately targeting the vulnerable. have been forced to defend their donation methods after a documentary revealed questionable practices being used by third-party fundraising organisations.
Dispatches, showed undercover reporters working with NTT Fundraising and Pell & Bales.
World Horse Welfare has worked with one of the companies that featured in the show but said that it had a “positive response” to the campaign, which finished earlier this year and was used to contact existing donors. John Blake the directory of fundraising released a statement:
Although we have never received a complaint from any of our limited telephone work, it is not enough to do nothing in light of the concerns raised by this programme, and we intend to fully review how we work in this area to maintain the confidence of those who choose to support our work.
Please be assured that we will remain vigilant within all of our fundraising activities to repay the trust and support of our donors. My small team and I can be contacted directly at World Horse Welfare to answer any concerns and handle any queries that you may have, until you are satisfied. You have my word on this.
Even with the public statement this has proven a massive blow to the charities reputation.
